Admission Policies
The Sea School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic and other school administered programs.
Non-Qualification Exemption
If a student does not meet basic experience requirements to qualify for the United States Coast Guard License or Document, as stated by USCG prior to the start of class, all monies will be refunded.
The exemption does not apply to non-qualification caused by defects in character or physical condition, including but not limited to violations of law, and/or drug use; or see “GROUNDS FOR TERMINATION” citation.
Enrollment Process
An Admissions Representative will provide each student with the school catalog, program information, schedule, and enrollment agreement. The representative will then interview each student by phone or in person to ensure that he or she is pursuing the appropriate program as listed in our catalog. To ensure enrollment the applicant must then complete and submit to the school the signed enrollment agreement form.
Prospective students may enroll on-line 24/7 from this SEASCHOOL website link: www.seaschool.com
Attendance Policy
The school policy and regulation on leave, absence, class cut, tardiness or interruption for unsatisfactory attendance is that any lost time due to any of the above is strictly the student’s responsibility. Students may enter any subsequent class to complete the course, subject to availability and at the student’s expense. This policy applies to the interruption of students for unsatisfactory attendance.
Grounds for Termination/Discipline Policy
Grounds for termination shall be for non-payment of tuition or improper conduct, which in the opinion of the instructor’s supervisor, is detrimental to the learning process of other students in class. Refunds under termination policy will be the same as those stated
Academic Policy
Sea School issues course completion certificates at the end of each course upon the successful passing of an end of course examination and/or applicable practical assessments. The minimum score considered satisfactory to pass most courses is 70%. A passing score of 90% is required for the Navigational Rules Examination.
Upon satisfactory passing of U.S. Coast Guard Approved License Examination, the course will be considered completed. The School will maintain records of all students completing the course for five years. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains records of issued documents for a longer period.
Guarantee Policy
If the student is unable to pass our examination for a Coast Guard approved course on the first try (three test sessions), he or she will be allowed to repeat the course at no additional charge within one year after the completion of the original failed course, pending availability. If the student is unable to retake the course within that timeframe, they will be required to pay in full to reserve a seat in a course following the year. If a student is enrolling in a class for free because of a failed attempt within the last year and they no-show for the class, they will immediately lose the ability to register for free.
Tuition Policy
Entire tuition is payable prior to class start. This fee must be submitted with the application to reserve a place in the class of your choice. If for some reason the prospective student is unable to attend this class, the fee can be credited to any future class or course offered by Sea School as long as the student cancels or reschedules at least three days (72 hours) prior to the start of class.
Tuition Fees are due and payable not later than the first day of class. Tuition fees cover class book. Testing fees are additional fees payable at the time of the examination.
Refund/Cancelation Policy
Applicants who are not accepted will receive a full refund of monies paid. Students may cancel their enrollment and receive a full refund, minus a non-refundable deposit, if they cancel at least three days (72 hours) before the start of the class (Student is responsible to maintain proof of payment, check or contract receipt). The non-refundable deposit is transferable to other Sea School classes, on a space available basis, if the student reschedules at least three days before the class begins. If the price of a course changes before a student confirms a seat in a rescheduled class or schedules at a higher-priced location, the student will be expected to pay the difference or receive the appropriate discount. The deposit does not guarantee a price lock.
If a student no-shows for a class without notice, the deposit is forfeited, and the student must pay in full to reserve a seat in a subsequent class. Unused deposits or deposits towards open registrations will be valid for one year. After one year, the deposit is forfeited.
No money is refundable after the start of the class.
To cancel, the student should notify Sea School, by mail, email or other recordable means, of intention to cancel: Sea School, 8440 4th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33702 or hqstaff@seaschool.com.
A refund will not be granted after the completion of a course.
In the event of an Act of God or Acts of God, that force cancellation or modifications of class schedules, Sea School will attempt to reschedule or otherwise accommodate students. Sea School will not be financially responsible for Acts of God.
The Coast Guard limits the number of persons (seats) in an approved course. Unless we can fill a seat of someone who cancels at the last minute (less than three days), we may forego the benefit of that seat/student.

Student Grievance Policy
As a student you have the following rights, privileges, and responsibilities:
- To have access to your student records and request corrections where necessary.
- To request an explanation of the various courses and/or programs.
- To know the School’s program/course costs and refund policy.
- To know and adhere to the academic requirements.
- To know course requirements and evaluation and grading methods.
- To report and help eliminate all sources of discrimination.
- To protect the safety and well-being of the School and community.
- To support the School’s “No Drugs” policy
The two most important student responsibilities are academic integrity and the obligation to complete all requirements of the course of study.
All student complaints will be handled expeditiously so as to promptly resolve problems or mistaken impressions. Every effort will be made to resolve the complaint prior to the student’s departure. The concern should first be discussed with the instructor. If the student is uncomfortable discussing their concerns with the instructor, they can elevate their complaint to the Operations Officer at the St Petersburg, FL/Headquarters Campus.
