Empowering Mariners with Knowledge, Skills, and Opportunities
As a trusted institution, we don’t just train captains—we build careers, support the maritime workforce, and drive the future of the trade. By expanding access to quality training and integrating cutting-edge technology, we foster a culture of continuous learning that empowers professionals to excel at sea.

Navigating with Purpose: The Values We Live By
Master the Basics
Excellence starts with a strong foundation. We believe in mastering fundamental skills, building confidence, and ensuring every mariner has the knowledge and expertise needed to succeed in their career.
Lead by Doing
True leadership is demonstrated through action. We foster a hands-on approach, where mariners learn by doing and gain real-world experience that prepares them for the challenges of the industry.
Taking the Initiative
In the maritime world, challenges are inevitable - but so are solutions. We encourage proactive thinking, problem-solving, and the courage to take initiative.
Ruthless Pursuit of Excellence
We never settle for mediocrity. Whether in training, leadership, or problem-solving, we strive for the highest standards in everything we do.
Don’t Be Afraid to Get Your Hands Dirty
Success in the maritime industry requires a strong work ethic. We embrace a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, knowing that real growth comes from effort and persistence.
Embrace Adaptability and Continuous Growth
True professionals must be ready to adapt. We believe in staying agile, embracing change, and continuously expanding our skills to meet new challenges.
Setting the Standard for Over 45 Years
Since 1977, Sea School has been the premier destination for maritime education, setting the standard for excellence in training mariners. Founded by Ron Wahl in St. Petersburg, Florida, Sea School pioneered the first private U.S. Coast Guard-approved Captain’s License course, becoming the first private school authorized to both teach the OUPV course and proctor the official exam.
From humble beginnings in a clubhouse to teaching aboard the Nathaniel Bowditch houseboat, Sea School’s legacy has been built on innovation, dedication, and a relentless commitment to our students' success. Today, we remain the industry leader, training thousands of mariners and helping them achieve their professional goals.

Charting the Future of Maritime Training
In 2024, Mason Christensen and Duncan Hamilton took the helm of Sea School, launching the next phase of our journey. As we expand across the country, we remain committed to being the top training institution for aspiring and seasoned mariners alike.
We are broadening our focus to support the maritime workforce - bringing new mariners into the industry, providing continued professional education, and expanding our curriculum to include adjacent skills and trades essential to maritime careers. With cutting-edge methodologies and technology-enhanced classrooms, we are setting the course for the future of maritime education.
At Sea School, we don’t just train captains - we build careers, strengthen the maritime trade, and shape the next generation of seafarers.
