Course Overview

Sea School’s one (1) day training course keeps mariners up to date on fire prevention, detection, and firefighting techniques through classroom instruction.

Each student who successfully completes this course will satisfy the training for Advanced Firefighting Revalidation requirements of STCW code Section A-VI/3 to include the ability to react in a correct manner in the event of an outbreak of fire, to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and the ship, and to use the fire appliances correctly.

Advanced Firefighting Revalidation Completion and Certification Requirements

This course is designed to be 8 hours in length. Each student who successfully completes this course will be knowledgeable of and have proficiency in Advanced Shipboard Firefighting Skills. This course will satisfy the Advanced Firefighting Revalidation requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(h) and USCG NVIC 09-14 (Ch 1), Tasks 1.3.A, 1.5.A, 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 3.1.A, 3.1.B, 4.1.A, 4.1.B, 4.1.C.

Why do I need to revalidate my Advanced Firefighting certificate?

Many STCW regulations and certifications, like the Advanced Firefighting Certification, require periodic revalidation to ensure mariners stay up-to-date and proficient on relevant skills and response techniques in order to assist properly in an emergency.

How often do I need to revalidate my Advanced Firefighting certification?

The STCW Advanced Firefighting Certification must be renewed every 5 years.

Is there a practical aspect of the Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course?

While every program is different, the Sea School’s Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course is held entirely in the classroom. No practical fire assessments are necessary to receive your revalidation certification.

How long is an Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course?

The duration of Advanced Firefighting Revalidation courses may vary, typically between one (1) and three (3) days. The Sea School’s Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course is a one (1) day course.

Will I need to pass an exam or practical assessment to complete the Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course?

At the Sea School, mariners will only need to pass exams. You will not have to pass any practical assessments.

Do I need to bring any personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course?

Students do not need to bring any of their own PPE to the Sea School’s Advanced Firefighting Revalidation course.

Is the Advanced Firefighting Revalidation Certificate I Receive after Passing the Test my Official Endorsement?

No. Only the USCG can issue official documentation and certifications. To obtain official certifications, mariners must:

  • Complete the necessary USCG application form.
  • Submit both the Sea School Course Completion Certificate and USCG application form to the USCG.

The USCG then processes the application and issues the official certification.
