This course provides training to mariners who wish to obtain an endorsement to their US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credential as a Tankerman. This course is five (5) days and satisfies the requirement for Tank Vessel Assistant, Tank Barge-PIC, Tank Ship-PIC, and Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids.

This course provides training to mariners who wish to obtain an endorsement to their US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credential as Tankerman. The Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids course is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and satisfies the following requirements of 46 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and the STCW Code, As Amended:
Course requirements of 46 CFR 13.201(c)(4) for an endorsement as Tankerman-PIC DL and for an endorsement as Tankerman-PIC (Barge) DL
Course requirements of 46 CFR 13.501(C)(4) for an endorsement as Tankerman Engineer DL
Requirements of 46 CFR 13.603(a)(2), 46 CFR 13.603(b)(2), 46 CFR 13.603(c)(2) and the STCW Code Table A-V/1-1-2 for an STCW endorsement for Advanced Oil Tanker Cargo Operations

Course requirements of 46 CFR 13.401(e)(1) for Tankerman Assistant (DL) and the requirements of 46 CFR 13.609(a)(2) and the STCW Code Table A-V/1-1-1 for a STCW endorsement for Basic Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations.
This course is principally intended for candidates who hold or will hold a USCG Merchant Mariner’s Credential and serve as or will serve as Tankerman. Ideally, Tankerman PIC (Tank Ship) and Tankerman PIC (Barge) candidates will have met the USCG requirements for participation in the minimum number of transfers prior to attendance. If not, they have five years from the course completion date to meet these requirements. Students are expected to be able to read and speak English. The course will also be of value to others serving as supervisory personnel in the industry or on vessels directly involved with the bulk shipment of dangerous liquids by water.

No. Our course gives students a Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids endorsement but it does not qualify students for the LG (liquified gas) endorsement.
The Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids course is a 5 day course that covers slightly more material than the Tank Barge-PIC course. As a result, students who take and pass the Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids course and have the relevant sea time can apply for Tank Assist, Tank Ship-PIC, Tank Barge-PIC, and Tank Ship Dangerous Liquids endorsements.
The Tank Barge Person In Charge (PIC) is responsible for the safe and compliant transfer of liquid cargo. Their duties include pre-transfer planning, overseeing cargo transfer operations, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
